Description
Limited edition
This coffee has the typical taste profile of Indonesian coffee: earthy, spicy aromas and notes of dark chocolate. But growing in the shade gives this coffee an extra fresh-sweet taste.
Shadow Grown
Coffee bushes that grow in the shelter of other, larger trees tend to produce better coffee. By planting the shade-loving Arabica coffee plant near other trees and shrubs, the natural micro-climate of the coffee bush is simulated.
This natural way of planting creates an ecosystem in which the plants provide each other with a useful composition of the soil. And the plants are more resistant to diseases due to the diversity in planting.
Compared to the large-scale monoculture that you see with many crops, including Robusta coffee, Shadow Grown coffee cultivation is a sustainable way of growing coffee.
And this sustainable way of growing coffee provides even more benefits. The shade of the trees means that the coffee berries ripen more slowly, which in turn gives a richer taste palette with more sugars. For the coffee farmer it provides an additional source of income or direct nutrition. Because the trees that provide shade can be, for example, avocado trees or other fruit trees, which can provide extra yields.
The supply of this coffee goes through as few intermediaries as possible, so that this coffee travels up to 4000 km less than other coffees in the region. This cost saving also benefits the coffee farmers.
