Classic Earl Grey tea was named after the 2nd Earl Grey, Sir Charles Grey. Legend has it that he received a box of tea from China as a reward for his proven services. This black tea with bergamot is one of the most consumed tea varieties in the world.
Bergamot oil is extracted from the bergamot orange, an inedible citrus fruit. Its similarity to lemon means that bergamot, and therefore Earl Grey tea, pairs very well with a slice of lemon.
