Classic tea with bergamot

Blend of Ceylon tea flavored with bergamot oil. Bergamot oil is extracted from the peel of the fruit of the bergamot plant.

The bergamot is a citrus fruit and resembles lemon. The fruit is not edible, by the way. The scent of the bergamot oil is very characteristic and due to its relationship with lemon, Earl Gray combines perfectly with other citrus flavors such as lemon and orange.

Earl Gray tea is named after Earl Charles Gray (1764-1845), a British statesman and prime minister. The story goes that the tea was presented to him as a gift after one of his employees saved a boy from drowning during a trade mission to Asia.
In gratitude, the boy's father would have given Earl Gray the recipe.

Variants of the Earl Gray are Lady Gray (with orange and cornflower) and eg Russian Earl Grey.
