The Monsoon

Coffee originated in India quite early. Around 1670, the holy Baba Budan takes coffee from the seaport of Mocha (Yemen) on his pilgrimage to Mecca. He wraps seven beans around his waist and when he comes home, he plants them in the hills of Chikkanagahuru (later called Baba Budan Hills). One of the legends of this great country where dry process coffee is called Cherry and wet process Parchment .

There are about 3 million workers in India on 124,000 plantations. This coffee goes through a special phase in the production process. The coffee beans are placed in special storage warehouses in anticipation of the Monsoon (monsoon - in the rainy season). As soon as the Monsoon arrives, the sides of the veemen are opened and the moist wind circulating along the coffee causes the beans to swell and the coffee to take on its mild moist scent. Inverting the coffee regularly for a period of 12 to 16 months (!) gives these beans its beautiful pale golden color. That is why they are also called Golden Nuggets.
