This beautiful DirectTrade coffee comes from the plantation Los Naranjales, in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The plantation is 1.3 Ha.

The long fermentation process creates a special flavour profile that is full, rich and creamy and remarkably sweet in taste.

The coffee from this plantation is purchased directly from the cooperative (Farmers Direct). Because there are fewer intermediaries in the purchase of this coffee, a larger part of the yield goes to the farmer. Organic farming is used in the cultivation of this coffee, although there is no certification for it.

Groot vakmanschap

Diep in het hart van Huehuetenango ligt hoog in de bergen Finca los Naranjales, onderdeel van de Coöperatie Comal. Don Pedro Lopez Mendez (65) werkt hier samen met zijn vrouw al decenia lang op hun plantage van 1,3 hectare.

Het grote geheim van de smaak van deze koffie zit in de fermentatie die zo’n 32 uur duurt. Don Pedro heeft er een oog en gevoel voor ontwikkeld om te bepalen wanneer de fermentatie perfect is.

Het is de passie en de perfectie van de fermentatie die deze koffie zijn intense ronde chocolade smaak geeft.
