Versatile coffee bean

This special coffee from Peru has the pleasant ring of lime, sweet notes of caramel and almond, closed with an elegant floral aftertaste.

This coffee is a FarmersDirect coffee and is purchased directly from the cooperative in Los Melizos. At first we had this coffee temporarily in our collection, but now we can include it and we are happy with that.

A hidden treasure

The coffee village of Villa Rica is located in the Andes Mountains in Central Peru, right on the edge of the Ashanika-Yanesha Nature Reserve. It is difficult to get there - it is a 10-hour journey from the capital Lima. Perhaps that is why the coffee from this village is one of Peru's best kept secrets. There is a mild coffee climate in this rainforest area with temperatures between 15ºC and 25ºC.

The coffee is grown in these forests on small plots. The coffee plants are placed between bananas, lindens and indigenous trees, so that the coffee bush has sufficient shade and is also fed. The coffee bushes are fed with coffee pulp and other self-produced organic fertilizers.

The coffee from this plantation is purchased directly from the cooperative (Farmers Direct). Because there are fewer intermediaries in the purchase of this coffee, a larger part of the yield goes to the farmer. A little gem is produced here with a lot of love and hard work. This coffee has a pleasant lime zest, sweet tones of caramel and almond and a light floral aftertaste. It is a versatile coffee that can be brewed in many ways.

Een verborgen schat

In het Andesgebergte in Centraal Peru, direct aan de rand van natuurreservaat Ashanika-Yanesha ligt koffiedorp Villa Rica. Je kunt er moeilijk komen - het ligt op 10 uur reizen van hoofdstad Lima. Misschien dat daardoor de koffie uit dit dorp één van best bewaarde geheimen van Peru is. Er heerst een mild koffie-klimaat in dit regenwoudgebied met temperaturen tussen 15ºC en 25ºC.

De koffie wordt in deze bossen op kleine percelen geteeld. De koffieplanten staan tussen bananen, linden en inheemse bomen, waardoor de koffiestruik voldoende schaduw heeft en ook gevoed wordt. De koffiestruiken worden gevoed met koffiepulp en andere zelfgeproduceerde biologisch geproduceerde meststoffen.

De koffie van deze plantage wordt direct ingekocht bij de coöperatie (Farmers Direct). Doordat er minder tussenschakels zijn bij de inkoop van deze koffie, komt een groter deel van de opbrengst bij de boer. Met veel liefde en hard werk wordt hier een klein juweeltje geproduceerd. Deze koffie kent een aangename rinsheid van limoen, zoete tonen van karamel en amandel en heeft een lichte bloemige afdronk. Het is een veelzijdige koffie, die op veel manieren gezet kan worden.
