Bergamot is a citrus fruit, from which the bergamot oil is extracted to flavor tea. The affinity of bergamot with lemon and orange makes combinations of Earl Gray and other citrus fruits very harmonious. And it's not for nothing that the English don't put milk but lemon juice in the Earl Grey.
