Why choose loose-leaf tea?
Loose-leaf tea is often considered the finest way to brew tea. The leaves remain largely intact and have plenty of room to fully release their flavour, aroma and character while steeping. This creates a richer and more refined tea than many standard tea bags. Loose-leaf tea also gives you complete control over the amount of tea, the steeping time and the strength of every cup. Whether you choose a classic black tea, a fresh green tea or a special oolong, loose-leaf tea lets you taste the quality of the leaf. At Van Hilst Koffie en Thee, we carefully select our teas for their origin, craftsmanship and flavour, so that every cup of tea is a moment to enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best way to make the tea?
Of course, you can make tea one glass or cup at a time, or brew a whole teapot at once. Use a sieve or filter to separate the tea leaves/herbs/rooibos, etc. from the water.
We have provided brewing instructions for each tea, which can always be found on the packaging. This always states the amount of tea per litre of water, how hot your water should be, and how long to leave the tea to steep.
Feel free to experiment: use more or less tea, leave it to steep for a shorter or longer time, and so on.

How is the tea packaged?
For every order, the loose tea is custom-packaged.
A new bag with a clear label on it with
- Name and description
- brewing instructions
- the ingredients
- the expiration date.
The filled bags are airtight sealed, so all aromas are preserved.
How long can I keep tea?
Pure tea generally has a shelf life of 2 years after purchase when kept in its sealed packaging, while flavoured tea lasts 1.5 years.
All the tea we sell has a "best before" date. This indicates the date until which the tea is guaranteed to be suitable for consumption. Has this date passed? The tea can still be used, but its flavour will have deteriorated. Smell and taste it yourself to assess whether the tea is still good.
How can I best store tea?
Tea loses its flavour when exposed to light and air. It is best stored in a cool, dark place at room temperature.
Once opened, you can store the tea in a tin or another airtight container.
